Reset your Instagram algorithm; there’s no need to create a new Instagram.
Today, the modern internet is dominated by algorithms. For example, when you open Instagram, the posts you see in your feed are arranged based on your past activities, through the app’s machine learning, to keep you engaged for longer periods. If the content doesn’t interest you, you might leave the app quickly. However, when the content aligns with your interests, it can become addictive.
However, sometimes the algorithm can be a bit off. You might have shown interest in a topic or a piece of content briefly, and now it appears everywhere in your feed. Perhaps due to a mistake in liking or sharing, the algorithm might have misunderstood your interests. Now, every other post and advertisement seems to be related to that topic.
Previously, you had two options: either inform Instagram that you don’t want to see such posts or create a new account and be cautious not to offend the algorithm’s gods. Now, things are changing. It has been announced that Instagram is adding a feature that allows you to reorganize your algorithm.
Meta announced on Tuesday in a blog post that the company is testing a feature that allows users to reset their recommendations, which can be referred to as the algorithm. Once you do this, posts that you have never seen before will appear on your Explore page, Reels, and main feed, while posts that were previously visible under your previous algorithm may disappear.
The algorithm will still be active, meaning it will adapt over time based on your preferences and the accounts you follow. If you are cautious about liking and sharing posts and following accounts, this new algorithm might turn out to be better than before.
How To Reset Your Instagram Algorithm
When this option becomes available for you, you can access it in your Instagram settings. Open the app, tap on your profile, then tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner. Scroll down and tap on “Content Preferences.” Then, select the new “Reset Suggested Content” option.
Yes, Instagram will warn you that the reset cannot be undone and that you’ll see posts you typically don’t see. Additionally, Instagram may suggest that you unfollow some accounts instead of resetting all your recommended content.
If you decide to reset, select “Reset Suggested Content” and confirm again on the pop-up. Instagram will then bring you back to your main feed and inform you that your recommendations have been reset.
