Motion recording is a great feature. It is the most important part of your smart blink camera. Clips can be saved to local or cloud storage. It sends you an instant notification. It works whenever the camera sees someone. But sometimes the camera doesn’t capture motion. This can be a security risk.
Blink cameras record video on motion. This is only possible if you have a Blink subscription and a Sync Module. These items must be purchased separately with the Blink camera. If the camera doesn’t detect motion, that’s a problem. You could be out $53. The Sync Module 2 costs $49.99. The Basic Plan is only $3 per month. Blink’s system is great, but it works!
How to Check If Your Blink Camera Is Not Recording
If your Blink camera isn’t recording, follow these simple steps.
Step 1: First of all, check if your camera is turned on.
Step 2: Check your Wi-Fi connection.
Step 3: Check the camera’s status in the app.
These are the easiest ways to fix the problem.
Reasons for Blink Camera Not Recording
If your Blink camera isn’t working or recording motion, there could be several reasons:
Low Power
Blink cameras turn on when they detect motion. Motion recording and Live View use a lot of power. These features can drain the battery quickly.
Blink cameras with batteries last up to 2 years. But if you use these features a lot, the battery may drain quickly and motion recording may stop.
Use less power on your camera:
Put the camera in the right place
If you’re getting extra motion notifications, change the angle and location of the camera. Focus only on the area you need.
Reduce the length of the motion clip
Keep motion clips short. Short clips use less battery and the camera will last longer.
Use less Live View
Only use Live View when you need it. Don’t run Live View all the time. This will help your battery last longer.
These methods are the best for making your Blink camera last longer.

Network Connectivity Problems
- Smart cameras rely on an internet connection to work properly.
- Weak Wi-Fi can render the camera useless.
- A red light on the Blink camera does not mean no internet connection.
How to fix the problem:
Best Wi-Fi signal:
The Wi-Fi signal should always be at least 3 times. A weak signal can cause the camera to malfunction.
Strengthen the signal:
- If the signal is weak, strengthen the Wi-Fi.
- Keep the camera closer to the router.
- The camera may have to be moved, but the signal will be stronger.
- Get a mesh Wi-Fi system.
A mesh system will spread the signal throughout the house and solve the problem of weak spots.
- Mesh systems are better than extenders.
- Mesh systems provide the best and easiest connection.
Use a 2.4 GHz network:
- Blink cameras operate on 2.4 GHz.
- Check the frequency of your Wi-Fi.
- These simple methods will make your Blink camera the best it can be.

Motion Detection Settings of Blink Camera
The biggest reason why your camera’s motion detection isn’t working is because of incorrect settings. To check:
- Open the Blink app.
- Go to Camera Settings.
- Go to Motion Detection.
- Turn on the “Enable” button.
Change the sensitivity settings
If motion detection is on, but still not working, change the sensitivity.
- Low sensitivity can cause the camera to ignore motion.
- High sensitivity can cause false alarms.
How to set the sensitivity
- Click More on the camera thumbnail.
- Go to Device Settings.
- Open Motion Settings.
- Move the slider on Motion Sensitivity 2 or 3 steps to the left.
- Press Save.
- Then move out of the camera frame.
These simple steps will improve motion detection!
Check Activity Zones
Set up your Blink camera’s “Activity Zones” in your settings. This is where you want to see motion. If the wrong zone is set, the camera won’t capture motion properly.
Disarmed Camera
- A Blink camera being “armed” means it’s seeing and recording motion.
- If the camera is “disarmed,” it won’t see motion.
- Even if motion detection is turned on, it still won’t work.
Easy way to arm your Blink camera
- Open the Blink app and look at the camera view.
- Tap the “Disarm” button at the bottom.
- Slide the button to “Armed” so the camera can see motion.
- Now tap the “running man” icon.
- If the icon turns blue, the motion detection feature is on.
- If the icon is gray, the feature is still off.

Incorrect Sync Module Setup
Blink cameras require a Sync Module and a Blink subscription. Both are required to save motion recordings. If you are using local storage, a separate USB flash drive is required.
Make sure your subscription is active. Check that the subscription is linked to the correct cameras.
If you are using local storage with Sync Module 2, open the Blink app. Click Sync Module. Look for the Local Storage option. There, check the storage status and remaining space.
Remember, local storage is for backup purposes only. Clips can only be viewed on a computer.
If the issue persists, reconnect the Sync Module. Doing so will refresh the Blink system.
To remove a Sync Module from the app:
- Click Sync Module in the Blink app.
- Click “Delete Sync Module”.
- Enter the serial number from the back of the module.
- Press “Delete” and confirm the removal.
Then reconnect the Sync Module to Wi-Fi. Turn on the system. See if the camera records motion.
If it still doesn’t work, factory reset the Sync Module. But be careful, this will delete all settings. Then start the setup again.
Firmware Update
If your Blink camera’s software has been updated and motion detection is not working, it may be an update error. Sometimes the update is not complete, and the old software continues to work. Restart the camera and the sync module. This may fix the problem.
Storage Space
The camera must have enough storage for motion recording. If you use local storage, the USB must have at least 375 MB of space. If space is low, the recording may stop. Free up space to continue recording.
Camera Location
It is very important to mount the camera in the right location. Blink cameras can detect motion up to 20 feet away. Doorbell cameras can see motion up to 25 feet away. Keep the camera between 5 and 20 feet. Don’t place the camera too close. Place cameras in key locations such as doorways and walkways. Also, adjust the camera height and angle. Test the camera and reposition it as needed.
Help for the best solution
If the problem persists, contact Blink Support. Give them details about your problem. Provide the error message, tests performed, and a description of the problem.
