Apple must comply with the laws of the countries where it operates. According to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, apps created by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries, including TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8, and others, will not be available for download or updates on the App Store for users in the United States starting January 19, 2025,” the company stated.

The document also mentions that visitors to the U.S. with their App Store set to a region outside the U.S. cannot update these apps or make in-app purchases.

TikTok and other ByteDance apps were banned because a law passed last year required the company to sell the short video app or face a ban. Last week, the Supreme Court upheld this law, leading Apple and Google to block the app on January 19, after which it became inaccessible to users in the U.S.

In a message to users attempting to access the app, TikTok said, “We are grateful that President Trump has shown a willingness to work with us on a solution to bring TikTok back once he takes office. Stay tuned!
