TikTok Ban Shuts Down the App — Can a VPN Bring It Back?

What Is a TikTok?

Users of the well-known social networking site TikTok may make, share, and find short videos—typically lasting between 15 and 3 minutes. TikTok is known for its dynamic and engaging content, including dance, comedy, education, and trending videos. Often accompanied by sound effects or music. This is due to its easy-to-use editing tools and viral challenges. It has become extremely popular around the world, especially among younger viewers.

TikTok’s primary focus is on community and creativity. It enables individuals to engage and express themselves through entertaining or pertinent material. The app’s strong algorithm selects pertinent feeds according to a user’s interests. This makes it easy to discover new creators and trends. The platform has transformed digital content production, serving as a springboard for corporations, viral celebrities, and global cultural phenomena.

As the company stated it would occur if the ban took effect on Sunday, TikTok has gone offline. Even before the midnight deadline, 170 million users were blocked, and although TikTok has expressed confidence that the incoming Trump government will restore it once it takes office, there are currently no assurances or confirmations.

Will a VPN let you get over the prohibition, then? As the ban drew near, there was conjecture about which VPN would be the best to use and the risks of making a poor decision. Free VPNs have long been urged to be avoided.

In any event, using a VPN won’t allow you to get around the TikTok prohibition in the US. That isn’t how they operate. You can pretend to be somewhere you’re not with a VPN. Therefore, blocking internet traffic to TikTok from the United States would be beneficial. Additionally, it would be effective in circumventing local restrictions and deceiving TikTok into believing you are not in the United States.

However, you would have to be logged into a TikTok platform outside of the United States for it to function. That would be equivalent to someone in China, North Korea, or Iran visiting a news website, social media platform, or messaging app from the United States or Europe. However, TikTok itself has gone black in the United States. The platform is not operational. You have nothing to connect with.

The VPN’s now-dark US ecosystem is tied to you. Suppose you are trying to use it as a US user; with the app installed in the US and an account that it identifies as coming from the US using the website, you can get around the ban. But you’ll have to create a new account that’s tied to a US phone number instead.

VPNs are not the solution to this prohibition, as I have long warned, and people who depend on them will be let down today. Ironically, you are blocked if you use a VPN to act as though you are in the United States when you are outside the country with a non-U.S. account.

Naturally, this is subject to change as TikTok has decided how to comply with the prohibition and modify its site. The only thing you can do right now, though, is cross your fingers and wait for updates later today or the next week.

Installing apps or clicking links that promise to help you get beyond the ban in the meantime is not a good idea. These are dangerous scammers who can’t help you.

How To Use Vpn For TikTok

1. Choose a Reliable VPN Service

Pick a trustworthy VPN service, such as Surfshark, NordVPN, or ExpressVPN. Make sure the VPN has servers in areas where TikTok is available and delivers fast connections.

2. Download and Install the VPN App

Whether you’re using a computer, tablet, or smartphone, install the VPN app on it. There are VPN applications for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.

3. Connect to a Server

Open the VPN app and log in. Choose a server in a country where TikTok is not restricted. Connect to the server to mask your IP address, which will appear as if you’re browsing from that region.

4. Stay Secure

To safeguard your data and privacy when using TikTok, always utilize a secure VPN connection, especially when using public Wi-Fi.
