Along with Apple’s other operating systems, a new version of iOS (IOS 19) is unveiled each year at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. After that, it goes through a protracted beta-testing phase before being available in September.
However, it’s common for later versions to include some of iOS’s most important features. The main Apple Intelligence feature wasn’t available in iOS 18 until iOS 18.1, with other AI features following in iOS 18.2 and iOS 18.4, released over six months after the original iOS 18 deployment.
Even though Apple hasn’t released iOS 19, it has been working diligently on the significant iPhone update for some time, and some rumours have circulated. It appears that iOS 18 is a sneak peek at what iOS 19 will be like. Here’s what to anticipate when it arrives later this year, based on the most trustworthy leaks and rumours.
iOS 19: Release Dates
On Monday after the iPhone launch event, Apple usually makes the most recent version of iOS available to the general public. The most recent iterations of iOS will be available on the following dates:
- iOS 18: Monday, September 16, 2024
- iOS 17: Monday, September 18, 2023
- iOS 16: Monday, September 12, 2022
- iOS 15: Monday, September 20, 2021
Based on past performance, we anticipate that iOS 19 will be made available to the general public on Monday, September 15 or Monday, September 22.

iOS 19: All Features
More Apple Intelligence with an LLM Siri
What some are referring to as an LLM (large language model) update for Siri is the most important rumoured change in iOS 19 thus far.
The goal is to make Siri genuinely conversational, similar to ChatGPT’s sophisticated speech mode at the moment, but with the extra benefit of accessing all of your iPhone’s on-device data and history and Apple services.
App Intents, which are hooks that developers use to let Siri engage with and carry out tasks within their apps, will also be expanded further in conjunction with this. Alongside Siri’s “personal context” upgrade, these App Intents received a significant boost in iOS 18.4, and iOS 19 is rumoured to further develop the idea.
One caveat: This next big evolution for Siri isn’t expected to land until 2026 as part of an update to iOS 19. In other words, just as iOS 18.4 is “the big Siri update” for iOS 18, we can expect iOS 19.4 (or something like it) to be “the big Siri update” for Apple iOS 19.
Home App Upgrades
We find it difficult to imagine that Apple won’t make any major enhancements to the Home app, HomeKit, and associated services in iOS 19, even though they aren’t mentioned explicitly in any of the current leaks or rumours.
Why? Throughout 2025 and 2026, Apple is anticipated to introduce a slew of new smart home goods. The first is a brand-new smart home hub, which is a reasonably priced 7-inch tablet with an interface akin to StandBy on the iPhone and a proprietary operating system called Pebble. Although it won’t likely have an App Store, it will feature FaceTime and Apple Intelligence and integrate with other Apple services.
After that, in 2026, Apple is reportedly working on a new interior smart security camera and a smart doorbell that would utilize Face ID to unlock your door the way it unlocks your phone. Further down the road, rumours have been made that a smart home product with a movable screen on a robotic arm will require deep integration with the iPhone and Home app.
It’s hard to imagine Apple pushing into first-party smart home products this much without updating the somewhat ageing and clunky Home interface or introducing new features.
Updated Camera App
Jon Prosser claims to have seen the Camera app in iOS 19, which is completely redesigned with a somewhat visionOS-inspired design. Options are condensed, the viewfinder takes up more space, and there’s lots of transparency.
iOS 19: Beta
Following the annual WWDC announcement of the new iOS, a developer beta test is made available immediately (or, at most, a day later). The first public beta is usually issued for developers four to six weeks after the second or third build. Apple releases the developer beta after the WWDC keynote, which is expected to be on Monday, June 9.

Of course, it will also support the new iPhone 17 models that will launch around the same time and the new iPhone SE 4 (which may be called the iPhone 16E).
As always, some features are unavailable on older models, as they lack the hardware resources. However, we think the improvements in Apple Intelligence and Siri will be available for all iPhone 16 and later models.
